Students' Practical Placement

Practical placement objective

The College of Polytechnics Jihlava as a professionally oriented college requires its students to complete a practical placement in organizations and companies.

Practical placement scope

In the full-time form of the Applied Informatics programme as taught since the academic year 2019/2020, the total length of of practical placement is 3+14 weeks in the 5th semester of study.

In the full-time form of the Applied Engineering and Applied Mechanical Engineering programmes, there is a practical placement of a total duration of 14 weeks in the 6th semester of study.

In the follow-up Master's degree programme Applied Engineering, there is a practical placement of 12 weeks in the 4th semester of study.

In the combined form, the same scope of the required practical placement applies as in the full-time form. However, students' work experience can usualy substitute their practical placement – see below. Practical placement is one of the compulsory subjects and must therefore be completed no later than during the course of study. However, for the same reason, compared to previous years, confirmation of work experience is not required as a condition for admission to study.

Practical Placement supervisor

The Practical Placement subject is the responsibility of the Practical Placement supervisor, Ing. Jan Jirsa. The Practical Placement supervisor mainly decides whether the placement proposed by the student is acceptable; disputable or unclear cases are decided by the head of the department.

Administratively, the Practical Placement is administered by the Practical Placement officer, the secretary of the department, Ms. Michaela Machovcová.

Directives and internal guidelines of the department

The practical placement within the study programmes provided by the Department of Technical Studies of the VŠPJ is governed by the Internal Guidelines for Practical Placement for Students of the VŠPJ, which can be downloaded in the information system and Internal Guidelines for Practical Placement for Students of the Department of Technical Studies. For the smooth running of the placements, in addition to the above-mentioned internal instruction, students can also access the Practical Placement Guide, where all information about placements at the Department of Technical Studies of the College of Polytechnics is published.

Information for full-time students

To successfully complete the practical placement, the student must meet the following requirements and deliver the following outcomes:

• registers the placement in the VŠPJ Practical Placement Portal website
• complete the placement log on an ongoing basis and submit the completed log for review 
• submit a final report on the course and outcomes of the practical placement
• submit an electronic presentation of the placement for its defence
• submit the evaluation of the placement by the student
• submit the certificate of completion of the practical placement and the student's evaluation by the organisation
  

Combined student work experience certificate

• The student downloads the appropriate certificate according to his/her field of study/programme and length of experience:
  • Applied Informatics Bc. – preparation for placement 2.5 weeks + placement 14 weeks (curriculum from 2019/2020)
  • Applied Engineering Bc. – placement 14 weeks
  • Applied Mechanical Engineering Bc. – placement 14 weeks
  • Applied Engineering NMgr. – placement 12 weeks
• have the document confirmed by the organisation and forward to the study department of the College of Polytechnics
• the person responsible for the student in the organisation must have a university degree
